Topic: Is the South African underworld stronger than the South African upper world?
Organized crime is in many respects the shadowy underside of modernity. Transnational organized crime, similarly, is the underside of globalization. Of course, organized and transnational crime are hardly new phenomena.
South Africa today is weaker in its capacity to fight complex commercial crime and criminal activities. SA's system of crime intelligence has become corrupted. Target violence as a commercialised crime is on the rise in SA and available to those who can pay for it. Countries where the underworld is stronger than the upper world all have weak economies and SA will not be an exception. What needs to be done?
