  1. ICFP Center of Excellence

The ICFP Board of Directors is proud to announce the launch of its first Center of Excellence (COE) workshop on 27 October 2017 at no cost to ICFP members.  Forensic Practitioners will be exposed to testifying in disciplinary hearings and improve their skills.

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with exposure to commercial forensic testimony by means of a simulated disciplinary hearing.

Participants will be able to observe and partially partake in simulated disciplinary proceedings, where a commercial forensic practitioner will provide testimony and be cross-examined. The testimony will be rendered under the control of a “proceedings case manager”, who will stop the proceedings during certain critical junctures to allow questions, discussions and informative remarks and advice.

The testimony of the commercial forensic practitioner will be based on a simulated forensic report, which report will be made available to participants beforehand.  This report might contain obvious weaknesses and candidates who have studied this forensic report will consequently derive more value during the simulated proceedings on 27 October 2017.

2. Preparation workshop – 6 October 2017 (09:00 to 16:00)

Participants will be invited to attend a supplementary preceding lecturing event on  6 October 2017, at EY 102 Rivonia Road, Sandton, where lectures will be presented by inter alia Prof Dawie de Villiers from the University of Johannesburg and a former CCMA Commissioner and Labour Lawyer.  The focus of these lectures would be to introduce participants to relevant theoretical aspects that may feature in the simulated disciplinary hearing and in the presentation of evidence in disciplinary matters in general.
